The integrated Converia Virtual Venue videoplayer allows you to adjust the video quality. It’s set to "Automatic" by default which means the best possible quality is automatically selected according to the current bandwidth. If you experience difficulties playing the video or want to save data volume, it may be necessary to manually lower the video quality.
The following table lists some reference values for hourly data usage when watching a video or a live stream via the Converia Virtual Venue.
Format | FPS | Resolution | Video Bit Rate | Audio Bit Rate | Data Usage / Hour |
1080p | 30 | 1920 x 1080 | ca. 6000 kbps | 128 kbps Stereo | ca. 2,8 GB |
720p | 30 | 1280 x 720 | ca. 4000 kbps | 128 kbps Stereo | ca. 1,9 GB |
360p | 30 | 640 x 360 | ca. 1000 kbps | 128 kbps Stereo | ca. 0,5 GB |
180p | 30 | 320 x 180 | ca. 350 kbps | 128 kbps Stereo | ca. 0,2 GB |
Please note that the actual data usage may differ from
these estimates!
If the event you are attending is an (interactive) webinar with one or more virtual conference rooms, the number of active webcams and microphones – your own in particular – in a room will determine the required bandwidth and the expected data usage.
For webinars, we will provide you with the BigBlueButton (BBB) software. When estimating the expected data usage, a range of factors have to be taken into consideration. You can find more information in the following article: What are the minimum requirements for using BigBlueButton (BBB)?
To calculate the expected data usage, please calculate the data volume based on your webinar’s specifications. Since German internet providers usually combine upload and download data, please add both values.
Convert these values (kbps, kilobits per second) to the value your data usage limit is based on (usually (GB) gigabyte). Also convert it to the data volume per hour (GB/h) for better traceability.
The formula for the kilobit/s to gigabyte/h conversion is: (kbps : 8) * 0,0036 = GB/h
